No, like, not a gender-swap. Just all men. Men loving men betraying men loving men betraying men loving men. It’d be different, certainly, with a different message, but I do think it is one that would work. Like how Dolly Parton’s Jolene works spectacularly on its own but then L’il Nas X sang it and gave the same words an entirely different meaning — the girl-focused version was still there, still meaningful. I think it could work.

Wait, would The Handmaiden’s plot still work if everyone were men? I just ran the scenario over in my head, gave the script a once-over for small dialogue adjustment, and I feel like it technically might.

I cannot stress the unbelievable degree to which it would not work as well if gender swapped. Come on now
like yeah I guess the story would still cohere but thematically it would lose p much everything 😭 this is a movie whose central plot hinges on the sexual exploitation of a woman for the pleasure of wealthy men + the men in the film objectifying, projecting onto, and underestimating the film’s female characters on account of them being women like it’s a pretty significant part of the narrative

Its incredibly hard to find a lot of his work online but I did my best with my extremely limited knowledge of Russian. From what I could tell he was employed in a stone/gem processing plant before he went to art school. He was very devoted to various positions he held in the party mainly pertaining to artists unions.
